BEC Course Directory

Basic Electronics Course (M092721) prepares Marines for advanced electronics maintenance training in Occupational Fields 2800 and 5900. The curriculum builds progressively from direct current fundamentals through alternating current reactive networks, solid-state power supplies, operational amplifiers and digital logic, network fundamentals, and miniature component soldering.

1. Course Standards & Bench Discipline (BE.01.01)

Academic & Calculation Standards

Workstation & Laboratory Safety Rules

  1. Personal Conduct & Attire: Remove all conductive jewelry, watches, rings, and metal ID tags prior to working at an energized bench. No food in the classroom; no drinks at the workstation bench.
  2. ESD Protection: Always wear a grounded ESD wrist strap connected to the bench ground point and work on an ESD field mat when handling components or circuit cards.
  3. Pre-Energization & De-Energization: Never wire, modify, or measure resistance (Ω\Omega) on an energized circuit. Always de-energize equipment before altering breadboard connections or departing the workstation.
  4. Multimeter Protection (Fluke 77/BN): Keep the meter in Auto-Range mode. Never exceed 300 mA300,\text{mA} in BEC labs, never connect an ammeter in parallel across a component or voltage source, and always return the red test lead from the 300mA jack to the V/Ω jack immediately after completing a current measurement.

2. Annex 1 — DC Fundamentals (BE01)

Annex 1 establishes the mathematical laws, component physics, schematic symbology, test equipment procedures, and diagnostic workflows required to analyze and troubleshoot direct current (DC) resistive networks.
